(In all seriousness, though - it’s a decent paper. Yes, it leans right, but not all the way right, and their reporting is factual and properly sourced. Pieces like this don’t help their image, but their desks do good reporting.)

This is true! Impossibility of fact is not a defense for an attempted crime. If this happened in the US, and it was real, a prosecutor could charge each subject with attempted murder and not even blink twice, or come anywhere near crossing an ethical boundary.
