Different issues. Tanking is for draft position; change the draft rules and that goes away. Relegation could also be implemented without taking away the playoffs.
That’s exactly what makes the NBA and other playoff systems exciting. It’s fun to watch and see if the best regular season team can be taken down. No championship game or series = no fun.
actually there are 2 knockout contests The FA Cup (open to all teams from any division) and the League Cup (Capitalone thing now i think) open to all teams in the top 4 divisions (old div 1,2,3,4).
Now the fun begins. Great thing about the league is there is a winner. (Which has now been decided) and 3 losers(which will no longer get to play in the premier league) so the season is not over. This is why the last 2 weeks still really matter say if you are a Newcastle fan...it’s actually a lot of fun to watch teams…
What a stupid sport. Ridiculous. I’m serious.
If you view UEFA (thats the European Football Association) as the ‘league’ and the Premiership as a ‘division’ it goes hand in hand with American playoff systems. Leicester just won their division without playing, much like a NBA, or NFL, or MLB, or NHL team can clinch a division based on the result of a different…
Idle curiosity, but what makes a playoff system superior, exactly, instead of just “different”?
I’m as big a fan of tourneys as anyone, but you’re insane if you think they actually do a better job of finding the best team compared to something like what the EPL uses. Tournaments are exciting, they’re fun, they’re full of high drama in short bursts. All good things for spectators. They’re not particularly great…
Without a championship game, it’s just anti-climatic. And it’s so soccer to win with multiple teams tying.
Oh I must be! And you must be justifying inferior systems of sports where they don’t have a playoff system.
Wow. This is like the most exciting news ever!!!! Leicester City doesen’t even have to win a game to be league champions and two other teams tying causes you to win the champion league??? I mean you can’t make this stuff up!
Someone put this in NBA terms for me.
Still don’t understand how they don’t have any type of playoff system. They just won a league championship while sitting at home.
Fuck yeah
I’m sure there are more, please feel free to add.
I kinda call bullshit on the last paragraph. Not that it might not matter to the guys in the clubhouse, but in the heat of the moment things are always going to be much more “what the fuck”. In a week or a month, will guys really be stewing about this? I doubt it. And will it effect their relationship with their team…
Look at this fucking (degenerative) hipster.
