55k a year? That’s over 36% on 150k. Even if you’ve got a 1mm investment, that’s 6% - over the 4% recommended withdrawal rate. And 4% is the high end of the spectrum. Can you explain how your calculations work? I would be interested.

Yep, living off dividends is not being diversified enough IMO. I agree with you but I’m still nervous so I’m at a 3% withdrawal rate for now. Annuities? Not on your life. The expenses are sooo ridiculous.

What a wonderful boss. I smiled the entire video. How cute.

I just quit, 3 weeks ago, with the help of this book. It should be given free with every cigarette purchase. I found it in pdf form online for free. He's passed away now but what a great book. I think it's a form of hypnotism. It's very simplistic, yet VERY effective.

38. I would kill to be 38. I'm 58 and I miss my Lucky Brand fringy blue jean mini skirt (not really.....it's in my drawer - can't bring myself to get rid of it) and cowboy boots. 5 years ago my daughter says "Nope". So I'm going to memorize your response! I love it and it's TRUE! xo

It's just sad. All children are beautiful.

What a beautiful child. Such a shame. You're absolutely right.

I have a good friend that, at times, is such a complainer. I truly think that it's a habit by now. I'm sure my response of "have you looked around lately? Other's have it waaaay worse. It's really not as bad as you think" is totally wrong. I'm going to try some of these. It's just so borrrring by now.

This is it. It's not some fictitious number pulled out of a hat or a percentage of your current earnings. It is "what are your expenses going to be when you're done working?"

Very nicely written.

All of it....beautifully said. You're right about the 6 month mark. It's happened a few times afterwards too. I'm sorry for your loss.

There is not a child on this planet that wants their parents to be unhappy. Children know when their parents are not happy. It will be ok. Your son will be ok.

My sister did it 9 years ago. I will never recover. Not from my anger at her for doing this, my missing her daily, not from my sadness that we will never get to be two old crazy ladies together.

It's funny that as you get older, the 'healthy to-do list' gets a lot more important. If I could talk to my younger self, I would say that this should definitely be more of a priority. I'm healthy as a horse right now but it takes a lot more work. 58 is the new.....um....40! Yeah! That's it!

Yes! This is a great idea. And it's sooooo addicting! I play a game with myself. What else can I cut out totally or whittle down. I've gotten my expenses down so much. I won't say because it's almost embarrassing.

Soooo, I love this idea. I could get totally immersed in this. I'll be a Kathryn Hepburn-ish character. It would make the drudgery of the day-to-day so much more interesting!

You're the BEST!

Luck. That's what I feel. I've been so lucky. I'm very grateful that I've done what I've done but attribute that more to luck. Right place/right time sort of thing. I think that if just about anyone had the same opportunities, that came out of nowhere - it wouldn't be any different.

Check with a vet. A lot of times that means they have a UTI or some other obstruction.
