@St8OuttaHalifax: It really doesn't add as much salt flavor as you would think. I put barely any kosher salt on the clove and I get the job done with ease. I think it does end up drawing moisture out, which probably does make it easier to crush and chop.

I love these concepts, but my cats hate enclosed litter boxes.

An easy trick I've been using a lot lately is to put salt on your garlic when crushing/copping it with a knife. The salt is an abrasive and will help crush the garlic.

@Seth Elliott: Both concepts are technically correct from the non-stick standpoint. Waiting for the smoke is an easy measure of heat, but you may have a higher chance of burning the oil—you want to avoid scorching your oil. If the oil is already scorched when you add the meat, the oil may burn while you're still

@MisterSusan: Fond is great, but it is different from the chunks of meat that can stick to the pan when improperly heated. Fish would be a great example here—a cook doesn't want to leave chunks of fish behind.

@Buster Friendly: I was just about to type "no kidding" and then, for a brief second, I saw FF drop to 4k. It bumped back up to 60 megs right away. I think a large drop occurs during memory cleanup and maybe that happens to be what ghacks captured.

@tdub97: Awesome! I have my own starter that I made, but I never get great loaves. But then again, I don't really know what I'm doing. This should help a ton.

@tdub97: Know of any good how-to sites with sourdough? I'm always looking for more info on that topic.

@mrsilver: My parents did this when we lived on a mountain in a very rural area. Our post man was the type of guy to bend the rules to help us out. For example, if it was too snowy to get up the mountain, he would call us from a phone at a neighbor's house at the mountain base so we could figure out what to do,

@hansonc: Thanks for sharing. I didn't realize the plan had to opt-in. I pulled up the IRS regs and read through the bulletin on this item at [www.irs.gov] . If the plan makes full use of the grace period option, it does indeed extend the deadline to March 15. I guess the moral of the story is that everyone should

This isn't correct—you have until March 15th. In 2005, the IRS altered the restrictions related to the use-it-or-lose-it policy. Spending-plan participants can make claims against their accounts for up to two months and 15 days after the end of their benefit year (a grace period). This grace period means folks on a

@jordan314: Technically, yes. And that's a good point, it's just the pad's that are going to be cheap. I've found used brains for $200, so it seems your costs are right. It's probably good to note that you can hook up the pads to a computer via a trigger to midi converter. You can buy them, or you can actually

Just get a few Remo practice pads and some piezos and you're set. It's still cheap and the response is so much better. Follow the instructions at [members.cox.net] . This is not my site, but I've done it and it works. The results beat anything out there.

@Will Darling: I know, I know... "640K software is all the memory anybody would ever need on a computer." In the future, this may be amazing—it may be next big thing. I just don't think the next big thing is 18 months away. That's all. If I'm wrong, then even better because that means the cloud has really

@wolfman544: Oh how I hope. Fingers are crossed!

@kaiserroll109001: and @azathir: I understand the purpose, it's just not a very mature market and I don't see it being one for some time. One day, it'll probably be great and it is worth keeping an eye on, but I don't think the first release, and maybe even the first few releases, of this OS will be groundbreaking

I was using [www.opensubtitles.org] , but it was very slow. AnySubs is speedy and easy to spin through. I hope the AnySubs library grows to that of opensubtitles.org.

@wolfman544: You're lucky. I've had AT&T forever and I just can't deal with the dropped calls anymore. I had it when it was first AT&T, then Cingular, then AT&T again, and this last leg of my use is plagued with dropped calls, weak signal strength, delayed text messages, and so on. It's as if AT&T just turned to

@snenad: I end my trial with the same opinion. The OS doesn't seem all that worthwhile. Perhaps this concept will be useful in the future with some mass appeal; however, I don't see a use for it from my perspective. I think this will most likely server a very small niche market for the next few years, at best.

I saw this posted over on Gizmodo and the discussion/articles on the Giz seem to suggest this is just for Prevx users. [gizmodo.com]
