True, I was thinking he could probably cut the existing ones though as the remaining window holes would presumably match the profile of the lower part of the existing windows. 

That is explained in the article, he “shaved” them (not sure if that means metal/bondo/fibreglass) and has LED strips that function as his rear lights. Legal? Who knows
