I wanted Elio to succeed so so bad, i really wanted one but since, i don’t know, about 2-3 years it became pretty clear this wasn’t happening. I think it still has chance if what they had developed is real and someone else purchase the whole operation (and debt), a very very thin chance though.

Since you plan to game only on your TV using a Steam link and i assume you don’t plan to do too much rendering or video editing in that, the GTX 1080 is definitely a huge overkill, but hey, free is free and at least you would be able to put some very good VR with that if you want.

And that’s just the top of the iceberg, the Gamer “aestethics” is just awful, every PC part or peripheral is an awful mix o black surface with red or green accents and on top of that a lot of distracting shiny rgb lights. If you want a stylish rig you have very few options.
