So Porsche was cute here. Starting in ‘06, they installed a more robust bearing with a low failure rate and it cannot be replaced without splitting the case. Up to ‘05, they used the older design -why they didn’t switch with the 997 is beyond me but the first year of the 997 has the older and weaker bearing.

Yes, the IMS Solution is $3K. There are lower priced options (offered through LN). While most things done on a car will not be 100% recovered, the cost of an IMS bearing on a 996/997 will pay for itself upon sale. A Porsche with the bearing done typically sells 2 - 3k higher than one without it done. It’s the first

It’s not the mileage that scares me. And I agree, that if the IMS hasn’t gone yet, it’s probably safe....but if you changed the clutch and did not do the IMS, I think that’s just being cheap and makes me wonder what else he was on cheap.

I don’t disagree. But if someone preserved a ‘94 Cutlass Ciera, do you think anyone would pay $100k for that?

IDK, maybe one or two.

I do not get anything about this car. Yes, it’s a time capsule but you can’t drive it or else it will be devalued. It’s cool but I don’t know I would part with $100K to say to my friends “he look at this thing”.

I was wondering why it was so cheap - I should have read the whole article.....ND

I’m a simple man - BMW’s M68 Wheels on the E46 330's and Porsche’s 997 Lobster Fork.

I went 997.1. If I have to do it again, I would go 997.2, only so I don’t ever have to think about the IMS bearing. That said, I have no regrets with my car. I bought an ‘05 997 and when I went to have it replaced, I found out it was already done. The first year of the 997 had the old IMS bearing, which is prone to

If I’m honest, a 996 C4S was the car that I drove and ultimately led me to my 997C2. I didn’t mind the way it drove. I honestly didn’t mind the lights. The dash board, couldn’t do it. I know the 997 isn’t cutting edge, but it’s not dated.

You may want to speed up your plans there, 996s have been on an uptick in price as of late.

Let’s hope it’s to keep the name safe in Toyota’s vault....it could be a name change for the FR-S/86....or will they follow Mitsubishi and use the Celica name for a Cross-Over Coupe??? They wouldn’t.

So my take on this is that BMW now thinks that the driving experience is more about technology and connectivity rather than road feel and performance.

I actually wish this were the case - it would be nice to see more fights for the lead rather than knowing who is going to win before its lights out.

But it’s not just equipment. I hate to admit it but Hamilton has talent and together they’ve been brilliant. You might be able to bring other talented drivers in and they’ll win, but there is more. Hamilton is the face of F1 at the moment. Love him or hate him, you have to respect him. $50M is insane. That said, could

Regardless of if you a fan of Hamilton, you cannot deny that he is the current face of F1. You could also argue that Mercedes has the best equipment but I don’t know how well they’d do if not of Hamilton.

I think my favorite part of the video I saw was that this is supposed to reduce distractions. How does a giant screen “reduce distractions”.

I have to admit, it was a bit concerning having that claw overhead. All it had to do is lose grip of a small piece of steel, and that could have been the way I exit this world; covered in oil, bloodied and bruised by a rusty bit of angle iron, laying in the mud at a scrapyard. It wouldn’t have been flattering.”

I never understood why GM sold the Spark and the Sonic. The two seemed close enough in price and size that they shouldn’t have existed in the same space and if I were honest, I liked the Sonic Better.

Came to point out the same thing - I have to wonder what else he’s forgetting to mention.
