The thing is that there is already a psychopomp pokemon in the form of Dusknoir, a ghost pokemon who has a radio antenna that lets it receive orders from the world of ghosts on whose time has come. Dusknoir is also described explicitly as taking lost spirits to the great beyond like a proper psychopomp.

What if Lampents are seen as psychopomps in the Pokemon world, though? Like, they show up just when someone dies and take their spirits away, so people start making up myths about Lampents guiding grandma to the afterlife.
