Stef, AER requires all drivers have a racing license from any recognized club (SCCA, NASA, BMW-CCA, PCA, EMRA, FIA, NASCAR, IMSA, etc) or have five (or is it seven?) clean LeMons or Chump races plus some HPDE. No one on track should be so clueless that they are overwhelmed by a yellow flag, or getting passed two wide,

Dunlop Direzza Z2s. It was a fresh set on Saturday morning....used the same set on Sunday. They are pretty well toast now—I got three 25 minute HPDE sessions out of them on Monday, but they were not happy about it.

Well, he's probably as close to one as we get in the USA.

I was driving the 901 car (I am one of the owners of it) on Monday at an HPDE and was frequently distracted by Randy's signature on the dash board. I was thrilled to be only 1 second slower than Sir Pobst too.

Yeah, no one builds engines for Lemons or Chump either.

Yes, and subjectiveness. I imagine a lot of "Well, because I like you I'll say your cams, headers, tune, and exhaust are ok, but that other guy's intake is going to net him a weight penalty because he looked at me funny!"

And that may be, but are they dynoing on site too? If not, then how are the published factory horsepower rating of an unmolested 1987 325 applied to the massaged motor a team races?

That's exactly what AER is going for; a bridge between crap can and club. Lots of our club racer friends won't go play in Lemons/Chump due to lack of licensing and (perceived) lack of driver skill/car safety. AER wanted to offer these drivers a place to do some real enduros with other qualified drivers, but didn't

The 902 car has 18+ races on it and won at Lightning in Lemons many years ago. It has had many other strong finishes in both Lemons and Chump. The 901 car never won anything but had strong showings at WGI Chump last spring and was a front runner at a few other races. Neither the #1 AER car nor the #42 AER car were

Yes, very similar to WRL. WRL relies on stock power-to-weight and does not take into account all of the mods and weight reductions. AER only cares about your lap times and the only policeable part of the car are tires.

SCCA/NASA/BMW-CCA have very few true enduros (races over 3 hours). AER offers 7 to 9 hour races (and both NJMP and WGI have two in a weekend). Also to be competitive within a club system you need to build the car to their format/specs. AER lets you build the car however you want. No points per part. No arbitrary,

Awesome video. Even if Hamilton and Button don't like or respect each other (which they may) they have a mutual admiration of McLaren's history and that clearly shows!
