The exit polls CNN is using showed that nearly 70% of all Florida voters thought 1) the government should do more to protect the environment and/or 2) climate change is a serious issue.

Fun fact: Drosera is an actual genus of carnivorous plants (the sundews). Of course, they don’t have roots that can turn into creepy townspeople but it made the twist a bit more chuckle worthy to this plant nerd.

Complete suppression hasnt been the norm for more than 50 years. But even if we wanted to do more preventative management, with what money and with whose manpower? Republicans in Congress and the current administration have made it their mission to slash budgets of agencies like the DoI.

Butte County is actually one of the more Republican leaning parts of California, but based on your comment history that’s almost certainly not what you’re implying.

I have to think that the first song specifically referencing straight people assuming the two gay people they know needing to be together was also a comment on how often that situation happens to gay people (“oh you’re gay, I have a cousin who’s gay you should totally meet!!!”).

Here in Florida the GOP turned Andrew Gillum into a Cuban socialist boogeyman in a short couple of months.

Pelosi has already signaled she’s open to being a “transition” leader. What that means isn’t sure, but I think that’s far better than removing her from leadership entirely and promoting someone from so far down the bench that they have no idea what it takes to hold together a new, diverse caucus and actually whip

Yuuuuup. Pelosi’s challenge to the leadership last time around was from Tim Ryan and his supporters, NOT the more progressive wing of the party, and understandably that was right after Dems got walloped in 2016. People on this site are acting like the “blue wave” was just because a bunch of young progressives who got

The usual counterargument is that could limit the field to people with the money, connections, and name recognition ready to go.

I agree with you so much here. I’d argue offshore drilling and greyhound racing shouldn’t be attached to a state constitution, so I personally voted “no” on everything but 4, although I’m fine with those passing in spirit.

I think property tax revenue has to be given to localities though, so 1 could have just screwed over city budgets while 5 absolutely screws over the state budget.

It being a CRC year made it a unusually long ballot for Florida, but really so many of the amendments were unnecessary. A state constitution shouldn’t specify bans on vaping, greyhound racing, tax exemptions, offshore drilling, etc. no matter how much you care about the issues. Get your damn representatives to deal

Not exactly nothing. The government still needs to be able to fund itself, so at the very least budgets will be considered. Remains to be seen if the House Dems play ball or act like the Republicans did with Obama. If it’s the latter, it’s entirely possible that we revert back to continuing resolutions (essentially

+1 more foot of sea level rise and another algal bloom

The entire leadership in both chambers is decided at the beginning of each new Congress by their caucus membership, regardless of a change in majority.

Don’t forget that DeSantis also now has a big say in our 2021 redistricting map.

2020 might be a bright spot, but also consider that DeSantis and our perpetually GOP-controlled legislature will have say over redistricting in 2021...which means that our district map will likely be in court until about 2027.
