I’m teaching my 18yo son (that I just found out about a few months ago!) how to roadtrip properly, and hopefully will teach him how to drive later this year. It's going to be an awesome year for both of us I hope.

In the US, police need reasonable suspicion (a lower bar than probable cause) to pull someone over.  It’s fairly meaningless, since they can basically just make something up - “you were wandering in your lane”.  But in theory the requirement is there.
