It doesn’t matter what law anybody makes, nobody will ever be a benefit-receiving employee of a company simply by signing up on their website.

I would love for Uber to pull out of California altogether. These petulant idiots will learn the meaning of “biting the hand that feeds you.” They’ll be back on unemployment and food stamps with no way to afford the payment on that Nissan Altima they’re leasing.
To be fair they don’t make any profits from transportation. They’re more of a failed venture capital firm
Was that intended to be a rebuttal? It barely even relates to what I said and doesn’t acknowledge the point at all.
I’m with Uber on this one. They don’t owe their drivers anything - not even a job driving. And I think all of the drivers complaining about fair pay are going to change their tune once they have to actually apply to be an employee of uber. Their accounts aren’t just going to transition to employee accounts. They’ll…
I’m just sooo confused as to why these drivers continue to work for a company that treats them so poorly? If UBER and LYFT cease to exist one day (given there losses sooner than later) are these same people going to demand the companies start up again because they need a job? If I don’t like where I work, I find a new…
I hate it when idiots compare CEO pay to what some pleb makes.
Not so fast.... You have to look at it the way Ubers highly-paid lawyers will look at it: Uber merely puts you in contact with a driver that is willing to pick you up and take you. It’s not UBER driving the car, it’s that guy with the clapped out Honda Civic blasting Post Malone... THAT GUY is the transportation…
Legally speaking, Uber is technically correct.
Well, Uber's not wrong....
If choosing between CA Government and Lyft on this topic, #TeamLyft.
That probably is the most realistic outcome of all of this. They could switch to an ebay style bidding system for drivers. Driver’s input hourly and mileage rates and the system’s algorithms factor in pricing vs. wait time for riders and distribute rides to drivers with the lowest bids.
I love it when Cali stab themselves and call it progress against an assumed beast. Doubtful gig work will disappear, but, guaranteed it will change into something the gig workers will resent. Please add a union to the mix.
Silicon Valley’s PR “bots” are out in force after this.
Except it has nothing to do with pay and benefits, but the relationship between the driver and the company. In order for gig companies to switch to a traditional employee relationship, the flexibility that many of the gig employees claim to love, will go away.
I drove Lyft until they stopped paying drivers their proper percentage of the surge they were charging passengers. $20 to me on a $100 ride is when we parted ways. All I wanted was a fair rate and 80% of the gross that isn’t fluctuating because some computer says it should. All that other stuff about benefits, fuel…
This is exactly the type of thing that will kill Uber and Lyft and all those other supplemental income jobs. The reason it took off is because it was cheaper and there were millions ready to drive because it was simple and easy to get into it.
LOL this is stupid. The Gig economy is meant for 1099ers. You take care of your own cars, your expenses, everything, and write it off on your taxes. You can use your gig business to write off any form of income that you have, interest from investments, dividends from stocks, wages from your regular W-2 job, rent…
If we all just leave California alone, it will destroy itself soon enough.
CARB needs to go
