I think you’re 100% correct there. Even most of the classic comedy movies were built around brands or stars that started with shorter form work; National Lampoon, all the SNL/SCTV/Living Color alumni movies, Monty Python, even the Judd Apatow stuff to a degree (since he moved from TV shows to features).
