Streaming pays royalties, just not very much. That’ll change going forward (it’s one of the reasons that there’s the possibility of a strike by the WGA, DGA, SAG, or some combination of the three this summer), and I suspect its one of the reasons Netflix is partnering with Nielsen. In order to pay royalties, you have

To be more accurately fair to HBOMax, it’s not solely responsible for the revenue on that channel.  There’s an entire cable-based subscription service that also pays for new shows.

In other words, WBD continues to flounder around, wildly reaching for any possible way to dig themselves out of the hole they’re in, instead of just doing what’s worked for decades: producing excellent shows and pricing the service reasonably.

There’s no question that Gunn, Waititi, Raimi, and others have definitely put their own stamps on the films, but that was done squarely with the support and approval of Marvel.  The directors were cast to fit the mold just as much as any of the actors were.

Exactly.  Marvel lets people pick the colors within the lines (see: Dr. Strange 2 and Winter Soldier), but they very much expect the lines to stay the same.  It’s basically directing TV.

The fifth in the increasingly inaccurately named Toy Story trilogy.

Yeah, except TS4 actually was pretty forgettable. As in, I’ve almost completely forgotten what happens in it.  Wells do dry up, and that bucket definitely didn’t come up with as much water last time, so there’s no reason to think that a fifth installment is going to recapture magic that was already fading.

I think you could make an argument that it does, if only because it introduces division into a fan community.

There is also something to the idea that the stories people imagine (vaguely) to follow up the original one are almost always disappointments. There’s the occasional exception like Mad Max, Top Gun, or the

They also ignore the context of him clearly not believing it when he says it and explaining himself further.”

Probably because his actions later in the movie demonstrate that he DOES believe it, when he waves his son off from saving him because reasons.

That’s technically true, but it also doesn’t have be done in the constant, unsustainable, and myopic fashion it does right now.  Stocks aren’t supposed to be short term investments, or at least they weren’t until the day trader class took over.

I didn’t say it’d be likely, I said it’d be great.

Wait, what’d Stephen King do?

They saw the scene where Pa Kent suggests that maybe it’s better to let people die instead of saving them.  Just because Snyder didn’t turn Superman into the Punisher doesn’t mean he got it right.

Nah. A couple of admittedly great sequences don’t make a great movie.

Superman Returns brings back the look and music of the Christopher Reeves films, which is fun. At the same time, it also brings back the idea that Lex Luthor would surround himself with the absolute dumbest people he could find. It has Superman

Man, how great would it be if Netflix just took a stand and was the first company to say to investors:

So I expect that 800% is pretty skewed.” Undoubtedly, but getting headlines about it will drive that dynamic pricing up, since it inflates the scarcity.  Greedy fuckers.

Like what you want, but man, I am SO over retconning tragic backstories for irredeemable sociopaths. Malificent is the Mistress Of All Evil. She puts a death curse on a BABY.  She’s evil and she enjoys it, and that’s all she needs to be.

Amen. Toss the stupid Angelina Jolie version of Malificent off the list and replace her with Prince John.

I’ll give you “How Do You Know”, which is just delightful.  (“They know the song too?”). But the point remains-- not having Once Upon a Dream on this list is pretty ridiculous.

Pixar movies are amazing, When She Loved Me is perhaps the best sequence in any of their films, due in no small part to that song...

But Pixar songs don’t belong on this list, any more than Iron Man belongs on a list of the best Disney characters.
