The NYPD claims the driver hit Conigliaro as he was jaywalking across a marked crosswalk. The city worker behind the wheel was not arrested, but the investigation is ongoing.

It’s the cars and their drivers who introduce mortal danger into the public space. They should ALWAYS be responsible for any damage, injury or death to vulnerable users brought upon by their use of their machine. No child, elderly human, pedestrian, cyclist, e-cyclist or e-scooter user should be held at the same level…
No one thinks about the strange places we live in, where you can only arrive at liquor stores, bars and night clubs by car (places which interestingly enough are often required to have parking spaces so people can arrive by car), and expect people to not behave like miss Ye here...
Things must be bad for the industry, we’ve gone back to a 4-speed manual on the Morning Shift. Keep it simple/back to basics/old school nostalgia?
Back to my grandma’s 1988 Mitsubishi Lancer with a 4-speed manual
I like cars a bit older than “a couple” years old. How about 7-12 years old? (I’m not into “connected” cars at all):
I’m no automotive engineer, but if safety was top priority, a system as critical as vehicle steering would be both mechanical and steer by wire as a backup, or vice versa. Both should back each other up. Safety took a back seat long ago.
As a delivery rider (not in NYC) can assure you 99.9% of the danger comes from cars that really shouldn’t be within city limits anyway. Segregate bike routes, close more streets to cars, take the cars away, or restrict their speed like civilized places do, and delivery jobs will be no more dangerous than working…
100% car brain.
Dunno, all of a sudden driving seems like a shit idea nowadays...
A real Tesla car wouldn’t even need batteries, but that is the world we live in: bullshit built on top of bullshit for quick profit.
And it is now considered normal to live in your car. No one bats an eye at the fact this guy just lost both home and car after a temporary lapse in judgment. California is a harsh place to live, perfect weather and all...
umm...Suzuki still makes interesting cars you know...just not for U.S. tastes
Musk is 100% snake oil salesman on a massive scale. For example: A true Tesla car would run on wireless free electricity with no need for batteries (what’s in a name, that’s just a name right?).
Ah... seems Ford also thinks the “middle class” is a thing and that the masses can afford 50K+ vehicles.
Car dependence is unsustainable, as most addictions are. People will too often work (taking multiple jobs), hustle, borrow, cheat, and steal just to drive, just like a cocaine habit. Naturally, the ponzi schemes start to crumble and real cost of driving is catching up to us and surpassing our capacity to afford it.
Maybe I do live under a big ass rock, but it has taken me this long to see IndyCars are closed cockpit cars now...
Big Three, big oil, EPA, CAFE and chicken tax have turned the U.S. into a batshit crazy place to drive
My advice is 100% terrible yet effective, not for everyone, and truly out-of-place in a car enthusiast site: just stop driving cars. Move to a walkable city. Get you a bicycle. Become invisible to police.
I’d set my car on fire if it ever pulled sh*t like this on me
