This is stupid. They don't have anything special whatsoever .
That much noodle is going to make you fat.
You're not really "forced", you're taking up a spot, so you have to order.
Isn't that what the lock screen is for? I'm waiting to here how my life can be hacked and gain precious seconds by NOT having an empty 1st screen.
Lifehacker is all about being passive aggressive.
If I was so addicted to my phone that I had to go through this, I'd re-evaluate my life.
Or, you could quit being passive, grow a set, and say "We're going here, who wants to go?"
Um, just so you know, they don't give you new phones. They fix other people's phones and give them out.
That didn't really help you, did it?
You're supposed to buy your new one, THEN sell your old one. If you can't afford the $200 bucks, then you don't need to be worrying about phones.
Nope.
You're going to get a sparsebundle error and have to recreate your backup from scratch every few weeks if you use a non-Apple NAS. I have a WD MyBook, and it has software to setup a Time Machine partition, and every few weeks it has to start over.

You mean the kind where you need a window to run the exhaust? That's what these are for, for when you don't have that.
Are we as a society so stupid, that we can't use common sense, and have to have a law to force this nonsense on us?
You must have never worked in government before. I have with different departments in different states, and they only thing they seem to utilize is the the government discount with carriers.
If you think this is going to be only in California, you're sadly mistaken. This will be used by our government to control communications between citizens...
Maybe you should have done a little research and actually found out what this particular student does, instead of generally labeling as "The PhD students bag"..
So, put the burden of furnishing your dorm or apartment on others? Screw you. How about get a job during break between highschool and college, and be an adult.
