Good luck. My wife defends her dissertation in just a couple of weeks. Very stressful.

Yes. Everybody, find yours and go. If anything, the local ones might be better than the Washington one, as far as lighting a fire under state level people (the current federal government doesn’t care how many people march down the national mall).
I’m a clinical guy and so do very little research (and none funded), but many of my colleagues - and my wife - do wonderful and beneficial research with NIH backing.
That’s hard but yes. I’m against the death penalty, anti-gun, etc., but I could pull the switch on him and sleep like a baby that night.
This, 100%. The only people I don’t resent having to buy wedding presents for are my sisters or cousins who could really use help getting started - in this situation the most appropriate gift is cash.
Sometimes you get happy name surprises. We named our son Hayden, not knowing the root comes from a word meaning “heathen”, but now that we know it makes it SO MUCH BETTER! :)
They won’t repeal it. The places overwhelmingly affected are liberal (charlotte, Durham/research triangle, mountain tourist places like Asheville), so the conservatives in power don’t care if those places take a hit.
Exactly this. My (educated white millennial) sisters and I (living in liberal southern cities) always vote progressive. My cousins, of whom there are many, and most of whom grew up in confederate flag-flying territories, always vote regressive (ironically/tragically, often against their own interests, as many of them…
Maybe not good. Less bad?
These people are fucking insane. Google “anencephaly” or “hydranencephaly”and tell me that’s “god’s will.” Or how about congenital diaphragmatic hernias where in severe cases children can be born with effectively no functional lungs? Or congenital tumors or infections that destroy the brain before birth? Or…
We have a child who’s slept for about 12 hours straight since he was only a few months old (he’s 15 months now). I’d change diapers all day long to keep that kind of sleep. I told my wife he has to be our only one, because the second one will definitely fuck our shit up after the first one’s awesome behavior.
Definitely. Without getting too granular my setup is such that I think the graphics card will be my rate-limiting step in gaming (plenty of ram, good i7, quick SSD).
Thanks!
I asked my Duke colleagues if they were going to cheer for UK now (my alma mater).
Forgive my ignorance: if I have a 4 gig GTX 980m (in a gaming laptop), how does that compare to the performance of a regular 980?
I was already going to buy this game (jankiness and all it’s still mass effect so I’m gonna play the hell out of it and love it regardless), but this makes me want to buy it even more - maybe for PC and PS4 and XBone (I have all 3). Just to do my part to stick it to these assholes.
My mom also gave away my NES with game pad and one of the Olympic themed games that’s apparently worth a ton nowadays. (She gave it to a friend who’s child has Down’s syndrome and loves the games, so I love it and can’t complain - I have her give them all my old game systems now).
I don’t know how many dinosaur/transformer/Lego/Star Wars/GIJoe battles happened in my room when I was a kid but it was a LOT.
You’re not even going to do Duke? Come on. Do Duke. You know you want to.
