Agreed. I hate that the paper I work for requires the average letter to the editor writer to be factual but then just runs whatever from politicians running their mouths that obviously haven’t even done a Google search on what they’re talking about.

Has any reporter flat-out asked them, “Should children be taught about slavery? Jim Crow? Lyncings? Civil rights marches? Japanese internment camps? The lynching of Mexicans in the Southwest?” Not if kids should be taught about racism, but things like that specifically. Just curious how they would respond.*

And this is what the right doesn’t get when they try and say “your side does it too”.

Because if they did, they would see the correlation between poverty and forced birth, and realize that it is far more likely the real reason when crime goes up.

I don’t argue with your point at all, but why do we always say “THEIR rapes” and “HER rapist”? Why do we linguistically make rape victims OWN the trauma that was visited on them? Why can’t we just say “the rape that she suffered”? Saying “her rape” makes it sound like something that’s a fucking coming-of-age rite or…
