Not a bad list. Definitely some good choices and others I need to check out. Great shouts on the Chief Keef and Tierra Whack albums in particular.

As the parent of a trans teenager, I look forward to checking this out. It’s been quite a journey, and there aren’t many artistic touchstones to shed any light along the way. I did enjoy Always Jane, but (aside from the fact that it’s a documentary and not a drama) Jane was so far into her transition and so able to

Missing

Came here to make sure the new St Vincent was listed. I’m glad to see that it was, although slightly disappointed that ‘All Born Screaming’ was praised with the common side insinuation that ‘Daddy’s Home’ was a misstep. I absolutely love the different vibes of both albums.

Surprised Tangk by Idles isn’t on here.

The GOAT

I love her so much.

I know it’s been reviewed on this site, but I urge everyone who sees this to check out I Saw the TV Glow. It’s great to make movies about trans people, but it’s even better when a trans person gets to make a movie.

This sounds lovely. The world sorely needs more empathy and understanding.

I suppose it was released last year, but it was only early this year that I fell in love with Sweeping Promises’ Good Living Is Coming for You (thanks to Apple Music’s Discovery Queue, of all things).

Well, that’s just, like, your opinion, man.

You can argue the ethics of that, but legally, it is certainly allowed and it would fall under dramatic license since the show while saying it’s a true story is clearly a dramatic recreation and not a documentary. Legally, they are almost certainly in the clear. All of the examples you’re giving are examples where the

They didn’t exaggerate her crimes. They have stated that they have 41,000 emails that she sent Gadd. I suspect you didn’t see the show and don’t actually know what the accusations are. But Netflix (nor Gadd) never released her name. They changed key details to obscure who she was. She outed herself.

That’s not actually what happened. One of the tweets, which was shown on a fake account with the actresses face was similar to a real tweet that Harvey actually sent Gadd on her own public facing social media.

The lawsuit was filed in the US so it has to reach the US legal definition of defamation, which is incredibly hard to do and would have to involve proof that it was not true, but still fully traceable to her. Given her identity was only discovered through real world social media posts she herself made, it will be hard

I really don’t see her winning.

Wonder Twins was a lot more fun then I expected it to be. I picked it up on a lark and really enjoyed it.

No Squirrel Girl!?

The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl sadly ended its incredible 50 (58?) issue run this year as well. Ryan North and Erica Henderson created what was probably my favorite mainstream publisher comic in years.
