The joke that no one remembers the Rams in LA in 2016 is a good one, and totally worth the editorial mistake.

Signed, a former St. Louis Rams fan.

I dunno. I remember 2006 feeling awful mostly because US fans came out of ‘02 feeling like the team had really made progress. And then the losses to Czech Republic and Ghana really put us in our place again. It wasn’t the worst performance, but it was super disappointing.

Losing to Iran was France ‘98, where we also finished dead last.

So I guess that’s two horrible flameouts in 3 World Cups, with a good run in 2002 between them.

And this is sort of the reason that the biggest American soccer exports have, pre-Pulisic, been goalkeepers. It’s because the skills that a good shot-stopping goalkeeper, at least, needs are pretty similar to skills that are more or less transferable from basketball or volleyball.

You must be white and live in a neighborhood full of white people.

I think everyone creatively involved in building this world, both Martin and Benioff/Weiss, are tired of it and want it to be over as soon as possible.

For the show, it means consolidating everything into a rushed, spectacle-rish, plot-poor finale, and for Martin it means never finishing the books.
