Tesla.  You will never convince me that those cars are luxury.  Panel gaps I can see through, horrible interiors, “leather” that is just nasty, seats that suck, etc etc etc.

You guys can’t be happy with 95% of car models promising to go full EV?

As a designer myself, I would like to respectfully disagree. With both you and the article. The worst design is always the pointlessly vulgar. That said, there is actually one function to the obnoxious mole rat grille: It distracts from the shockingly shoddy detailing around it. The rear doesn’t have that luxury.

I think we’re definitely at the point that full screen is cheaper than analog, but also it’s a Maybach. The words “it’s cheaper” shouldn’t be even mentioned in the development of the car.

On the whole, I think the new S-Class is a cluster. The exterior (sans the gaudy Maybachifications) is understated to the point of not looking its price point. The interior is a horrible mishmash of shapes, textures, and finishes, and the instrument cluster looks like a complete afterthought. The depreciation is going

Looking at something like this, I can’t imagine ever buying a Tesla. However I get that I am the ONLY one who feels that way based on how many Teslas I see out and about.

It’s that last part that’s the most fascinating: the Hellcat’s days are numbered, not because consumers don’t want them, but it’ll come down to those engines being regulated out of existence.

4th Gear: Jaguar should go back to its roots. Sophistication, relaxed luxury, except reliable. Velvety smooth powertrains, flowing lines, and for the love of God just make something that doesn’t break half a dozen times and have weekly electrical gremlins during an auto magazine’s long-term test.

I assume that like all 230Es it’s now a taxi in some small town.

I was literally wondering about this just the other day. They’ll probably never find the Benz, but I bet it’s still running. Those things never die.

That was the worst ad I’ve ever seen. More cringeworthy bad than funny bad. Doesn’t matter, BMW already lost me with their exterior designs anyway. I’ll keep owning and treasuring my F30 and try to pretend this isn’t happening for as long as I can.

So my take on this is that BMW now thinks that the driving experience is more about technology and connectivity rather than road feel and performance.

My wife, who is a little bit of a car person (but doesn’t know a whole lot about them) recently sent me a picture of a ‘nice old car’ she saw parked a few streets from our house. She liked the wide rear (she cannot lie) and the smooth simple lines along the side of the car. It was a pristine E38 740i and I loved her

Am I the only one who feels like BMW has kind of lost the plot? I don’t just mean with their advertising, I mean in general. There was a time when BMW was “the driver’s car”, not just in name, but also by virtue of the cars they made. That seems to be less true with every new generation and model, no matter how hard

Cobalt, Lanthanum and Neodymium come to mind

If the only issue was extracting lithium....what about others rare elements?

Already been done. My ‘89 Dodge Caravan had the Pentastar hood ornament on a spring mount.

Surely they could be made to collapse back into the hood on impact. Just put it on a spring, basically. Or make them out of foam, you’d never have to know the difference to look at ‘em. Cone on Humanity, we can do this!

197K on my BMW 850, I was hoping for 200K this year
