I consider the E9x and E60 to be really great cars. The problem is that their greatness is option-dependant; if it has the optional Active Steering fitted, it ruins the car.
The new 3 Series is a joke compared to older BMW’s like your E46. The closest thing to the E46 on sale today is the BMW 2 Series, or the Genesis G70 if you need 4 doors.
