I have wanted an E39 M5 for a few years. Part of the reason is it may be the last generation of BMW where the statement “if you can’t afford it new, you can’t afford it used” doesn’t really apply. If these things are kept right, they’ll drive to hell and back.

There’s this 2005 Maserati GranSport at a dealership up the street from me for a cool $21,777. Yes, a modded R could beat a stock SS. But there is no motor that has the aftermarket support and ability to make cheap HP like an LS. The SS fits 5 adults easily and has a decent trunk (16 cubic feet). You get better gas mileage with the Golf-R, but that’s a savings of 30 bucks per thousand miles. I’m not sure…
