I've tried Handbrake many times, but the video it outputted was always badly distorted. Then one day I stumbled upon DVDFab DVD Ripper. Costs $50 but it works quite well.

I always do this at my school. I try to get two or three cubes to keep the cold, and fill the rest with soda. I usually only by 12oz drinks and finish them within 20 minutes, which denecssitates the need for extra ice.
