They are mostly focusing on the recreational states so...yeah, mostly democratic voters.
Getting older swing-state conservatives to come out on a culture issue is more important to them than the revenues.

Plus, even if you buy that Luke just had a moment of weakness and wouldn’t have really killed Ben...that’s still a huge issue for Luke’s characterization.

I mean, he LEAVES sure. But withing TFA there is the possibility that he left for more than personal reasons. That his leaving was the painful but RIGHT thing to do in some way.
Maybe, but I would argue that if you get a decent oral storyteller to TELL you the story of the prequels (or have a decent writer zoom out to write it) they hold up well and the tragedy of Anakin Skywalker is pretty poignant.
