I didn't say that's what it actually was. I said that's where the perception that young women have today comes from.

As far as I know, no one demanded to know how she plans on pushing a baby out of her vagina. In the end, I don't even know what movie she's promoting. Does she even have a movie out? Is she just promoting her pregnancy? Hell if I know.

I'm quite certain that the majority of people you ask who identify themselves as, "Sure, I'm feminist" would have no clue who she is.

Thanks, because pretension is totally not a problem in the feminist community!

I don't know much about the different aspects of each "wave," but it seems that most of the negative connotations that young women TODAY have with feminism come from that extreme second wave of seeming "man hating." I wonder how long it'll take for the effects of it to wear off.

Thank you, that is the most concise explanation of her philosophy that I've seen. I appreciate you writing that instead of "Hurr durr you dum dum how can you not know her????"

I don't believe I ever said she's irrelevant. But I'm quite secure in saying that I'm pretty sure most people outside of those who have an academic/scholarly interest in feminism would have no clue who she is.

Well I think most non-white-male people can agree with that. She seems to be going at it from a particularly rigid stance though.

Is there anything in this crap as amazing as her "Put ice in drinks to make them cold!" advice?

I'm not white, but this is a pretty stupid argument. Not that many women are in the position to hire who ever they want in the first place.

Ahh I see, one of those "I don't really have an answer as to what we do when we get rid of the problem" types.

That has the exact opposite effect. Because people will want to know why the fuck she doesn't capitalize her name, thus putting even MORE emphasis on it.

Ok, but this is a completely different post on Jez written by a woman? As for the comments in that post, I'm not really feeling this lady's language choices or apparent ideology (as explained by some other commenters) so I'm not going to condemn them.

That's fine. And your unnecessary haughtiness is on you.

I did Google it, but there was too much to sift through. It's much easier to ask someone else who might know.

That wasn't rude. I'm not really interested at all in the academic side of feminism, and this whole "Beyonce is a terrorist" mess is a pretty good reason why.

What is she for then? I literally have never heard of this woman before. Black-power-community-matriarchy?

Huh? First of all I'm pretty sure Hillary Crosley is a woman. Second, I didn't have a damn clue what "bell *fucking* hooks" meant, so I was glad to have some perspective.

Calling Beyonce a terrorist is exactly the sort of stupid shit that makes young women and girls hesitant to label themselves feminist. And also, capitalize your name lady.

Yes she is controlling it, and she's inviting people to be interested in her life. And then getting grumpy when that interest manifests itself as paparazzi shots. There are plenty of celebrities who manage to not talk about their personal lives.
