Yes, this. I felt the performance was a bit off because she should be a badass, although once they were in the thropter she improved. This would probably not be a problem if you are less familiar with the books.

I saw it in with my husband last night (in IMAX). I know Dune forwards and backwards to the extent that I could predict every story beat and many lines of dialogue, and he has next to zero familiarity with it, having never read the books or seen any previous adaptations. We both loved it. Granted, we are both big…
In some universe, yes, and it’s riveting.
I’ve read it a couple of times, and to be perfectly honest, it does not improve with each reading. It just gets sillier. That said, I’m stoked for the movie, and I loved the Lynch adaptation. Silly reads can make great movies.
Also, the dimensions of your continent are important. Is it wider than it is tall or taller than it is wide? Changes in day length can have profound impacts on the ability to spread agricultural advances. (See the chapter about the domestication of grains.)
I hope he has a long and happy sort-of-retirement-from-acting-but-not-from-some-other-projects. He has certainly earned it.
I give Kwaidan my highest possible recommendation. Stylish as hell, just mesmerizing in its beauty. In terms of a favorite segment, I would have to go with “Hoichi the Earless”, but they are all great.
My 78-year-old mom LOVES this show.
So, am I to understand from this review that the assault in question is depicted twice? While it sounds like a very good film with good reasons for that directorial choice, I need to know that going in. Might be too much for me.
I highly recommend “The Devil’s Backbone”. That is all.
I ALSO like to live dangerously
Um, wild boars are pretty dangerous. This does not really seems like an occasion for guffaws.
I’m actually crying in my office. RIP. I’m sorry your career was so short.
This.
I can see why the pulled it, but it is also amusing.
Little biology lesson: sex determination based on X and Y chromosomes is not universal. Even for non-mammalian species that have chromosomal sex, they can use different chromosomes (e.g. ZW) and the males can be the homomorphic sex (e.g. ZZ). For many species, sex is environmentally determined (e.g. by temperature…
I will allow that half of the world’s population dropping dead in a single day would be disruptive, initially.
No dumber than The White Plague (1982) by Frank Herbert in which all of the women die. Actually, less dumb.
It’s not like they’re there because they have essential and unique skills. They could be easily replaced. I don’t want all the men to die, but if we could figure out reproduction, life could move on without them just fine.
