I’ll forgive them for the name, but I will not forgive them for the way the word “you” is pronounced in that song. Crime against language.

Sure. Looks fun if you’re in the right mood.

Seriously? I thought it was really interesting. To each their own I suppose.

Beat me to it. I was like wait, what?

My husband and I managed to find a streaming version of A Taxing Woman (Juzo Itami, 1987). I saw it when it came out more than 30 years ago, and it’s just as good as I remember. Itami can compose the shit out of a shot. If you liked Tampopo, definitely see this (although it’s hard to find).

Yes, to the extent none of of have to do any of this. Anyone who is passionate about their work may occasionally question their life choices, then hunker down and keep on going.

I feel like he can do both, like a director that does personal stuff and gun-for-hire studio stuff. He has the career he wants and does projects he wants to do.

Now I’m getting upset again about how they used him as a spy. No way to defend that ethically. It’s just plain wrong.

There was so much tragedy in that portrayal. You got the sense of this man’s rich inner life that could never been fully expressed. The hypnosis scene was heartbreaking.

He gets adapted a lot. I’m guessing more than any other author. His stuff is plotty, but it’s deceptively plotty, because what makes it work is character development.

My life for you.

You’re just not going to beat Matt Frewer as Trash. For that matter, you’re not going to beat Bill Fagerbakke as Tom Cullin. OK, maybe it’s possible, but it’s gonna be tough.

I would say in 100 years The Stand will still be read, analyzed, and probably taught as part of the literary cannon. If King has a true masterpiece, it is The Stand. Also, it has not really been adapted THAT many times. No more than The Shining, or Pet Cemetery, or It.

You were writing about Trump long before he became POTUS, because he has been a prominent figure in pop culture for decades. He was a figure from pop culture who decided to run for POTUS solely for the purpose of becoming more popular. It is totally understandable that you considered it necessary to cover a pop culture

Trump is a pop culture figure. He has been a pop culture figure my entire adult life (I’m 53). That’s what he WANTS to be. He ran for president for the purpose of getting more coverage. It’s hard for a pop culture web site to avoid talking about him.

When I lived overseas with my dad in the mid-70s, they showed stuff like that on the Army-run TV station we watched. It was the only English-language station available. I came home to the U.S. and taught all me friends the “VD is for Everybody” jingle.

Watched it last night with my husband, who is a Theron super fanboy (the man has taste). We agreed on a couple of things. 1) Cute movie with charming leads and supporting players; good script; several laugh out loud gags. 2) The relationship between Theron and Rogen is totally believable; they had great chemistry. 3)

I would like everyone to remember how the book ends, then reconsider whether you wish to cast Kermit the Frog in the title role.

Kushner used to be pretty normal looking. Now he’s got this weird Odo thing going on.

My general rule for fiction is I will accept any universe the author creates, as long as it’s internally consistent. Stories get into the most trouble when they are set themselves in the real world. Real world, real world rules (for example, real FBI? Real FBI rules). GoT is clearly not in the real world or any real
