Have one in our Tesla and Rivian, each. Never used either, but it’s great peace-of-mind, for sure.

It’s generally accepted as a best practice with EVs to “ABC”...always be charging. Oftentimes for reasons like you mentioned (always have a full or near-full “tank” at any given time). Now, does anyone from the manufacturer/dealer teach this to new EV owners? Noooope.
Not to mention the car will likely be sold to another person before its death, who will continue to drive it tens of thousands of miles more...I don’t get this take...
Newer phones account for this. Example: My Google Pixel knows that if I plug in my phone after 9pm on a weeknight (aka I have an alarm for the next morning), it will slow charge to get to 100% closer to 6am (my alarm) as it knows I won’t likely be unplugging it anytime between those hours.
But even aside from that,…
I’d happily trade every sedan in the country for an equivalent wagon...but we all know that ship is sailing away fast.
It wasn’t clearly explained, for sure, but the gist is to prop the door open with a suitcase upon first entrance in case the room isn’t truly vacant. Nearly all hotel doors these days self-close, so walking in and letting it close behind you means an extra step to get out in a hurry should someone be inside.
Seconded on the Rivian (albeit R1S for us). We had bounced around a few different cars over the last 6 years or so (2016 XC90...reliability issues and 18-mile battery on the T8 was kind of a joke; 2005 4Runner...wonderful vehicle, but ultimately outgrew with kids; 2013 Land Cruiser...another wonderful vehicle, dream…
Digression: It’s been interesting to see Tesla ever-so-slightly reinvigorate people’s tastes in sedans. I know many folks that traded in a BMW X3 (or equivalent) for a Model 3. Small potatoes, but it’s been a small glimmer of happiness.
Tesla has had a decade-long head start on other OEMs for high-volume EV development. They also went through the same initial period of bleeding cash like crazy, and they nearly didn’t make it out. Tesla is profitable today because of years of NOT being profitable.
Look at Rivian as a good case study. Had to gather…
Good.
As someone who has previously worked in recruiting and still works in the HR space, this should have been cleared long ago. SpaceX isn’t a mom-and-pop shop with limited access to “the fine print”. A company of this size should have an HR department with easy access to a legal team to clarify all of these things (many…
You know you live in America when your kid’s school says “lunch is free for all kids this year” and you make a surprised Pikachu face because you didn’t think those words would ever reach your ears. (side note: props to you, Denver)
1st Gear: Tesla actually does this well. It has warnings for all 5 seats in our Model 3, but you can identify which ones have a car seat installed so it doesn’t harass you constantly. Obviously, this means people certainly abuse it, but it is what it is...
IIHS/etc do generally have a section for crash avoidance, but it’s primarily geared toward auto-braking, car/pedestrian detection, etc.
Visibility might be a difficult one to quantify aside from “good/meh/bad”, but would definitely be a good addition if possible.
We keep a Costco box of Uncrustables in the chest freezer, with 2-3 taken out to the fridge at any given time. These are not “daily lunches”, but more the emergency “go bag” of food for the many days we’re running like madmen from school to soccer to friends house, etc. In that case, it’s absolutely perfect.
I don’t disagree, but anecdotally, that is the exception and not the rule.
I mean, it’s the same basic principle as writing a check. I write you a check for $100. You take it to the bank and deposit said check. The next morning, the bank says, “hey, here’s $100 you can use” even though the check hasn’t cleared.
Fast forward 3-4 days...my bank gets notice from your bank that I wrote you $100…
Insufficient funds. It’ll initially post, as it takes a few days for ACH to actually process the official transfer of funds, and banks generally give the benefit of the doubt and “show” the payment has been made. Once all the debits and credits are lined up on the bank’s accounting side, they’ll see the money never…
kennytx_t4r on insta. Definitely not a rental.
I think you have a great point here. We had a Model 3 (we still have it, but we had one before today too lol), and after our 2nd kid started looking for a bigger vehicle to more comfortable seat the 4 of us.
The Model Y isn’t measurably any larger, especially for the effort and depreciation loss to trade 3 for Y.
The S…
