Something I’ve pondered before, and feeling more inspired to suggest today by this post:

I  bring this up any time I hear a conversation about basketball. How can a man who works so hard to recognize people in tough places all over the inner cities of our country, and yet he simply shits on bald people. What the fuck man? Shave your head, don’t make it a taboo to be bald. 

Can I just be the outlier here and say, who cares? I’m a teacher, and do you know how much I use a text book? Not at all. My students are doing a textbook remix where they write their own chapters of a textbook to prove that they can do better than the textbook writers. 

What was the argument against rent control in California? I really don’t understand this. I’m fortunate that my landlord set his own standard under a given agreement, but not everybody may be so lucky.

Recently reported somebody on Facebook making similar threats to political figures, I was told they had done nothing wrong. Huh.

I was a terrible student. I strive to support the kids like me.

Are you okay with creating a hostile learning environment? That’s what is happening here. It sets a precedent for the entire class/school that you aren’t safe from the people who are supposed to keep you safe.

The funny thing is, if you let kids frustrate you, you’re letting them have power over you. Being a teacher is about creating a safe and respectful space, clearly this isn’t, and I can promise kids aren’t learning at the level that they should be because of it. 

It’s about trust, these kids won’t learn in an environment where you’re threatening them, however innocuous it is.

As a teacher I can say that if a kid isn’t bothering other students, leave him/her the fuck alone. When you get a chance later, have a sit down with that kid and check in if everything is okay.
