It's a delicate balance. I have some 40+ trade lines on my credit report and my FICO credit scores are 790, 812, 810. It really boils down to credit utilization (aka how much you owe) and deliquency (aka payments >30 days late).
Not really... get someone to add you as an authorized user on their credit card and then dispute it with the credit reporting agency.
I've done this. Disputed bad authorized user accounts with credit agencies. Poof. Instant excellent credit again.

Yes you should, as well as your spouse. Stay on top of your bills and when to cancel the card before the annual fee hits. Try to reallocate your credit line to an open card with no annual fee before closing. Do NOT bite off more than you can chew and start slowly. Read the fine print.

I thought PMI was tied to the LTV ratio? For example, I have less than 20% equity in my house so I pay PMI until I reach 20% or until I have my house reappraised when property values go up in my area (and equity increases magically).

Also, you and your spouse DO NOT have the exact same credit report just because you are married. You may have a lot of similar accounts, but they are definitely unique.
