Or does it have a option like Disgea 4 had where you can create new party members? Or are there just that many unique party members scattered throughout the game?

While still not perfect, by this point much of the bugginess upon released has been fixed. I just did a playthrough not too long ago, and it was much better than when I initially bought the game.

No, I'll be playing as both. I hadn't really been following this game, but wow does it look like Left 4 Dead. In a good way. I think I may have to get this.

It's not so bad. I hop on occasionally to check out what new minigames they've added. The free-to-play rpg Mercia they added wasn't too bad. Not anything to write home (heh) about, but not something I regret losing an hour or two in from time to time.
