Had the same issue. It's a pain, but just delete your game data (not your save data!) and redownload the update and reinstall. Solved all issues for me.

While I'm sure we'll be back at each others throats come the next Bethesda/bioware game, I'm with you on this one. People are acting like SSB is the only game allowed to have this style of gameplay. In my opinion, that kind of seems like saying only the Final Fantasy games should be allowed to be turn based JRPGs.

I'm really interested in this. I'm a pretty big fan of SSB, so I don't mind another game in the same vein except with Sony characters. As long as they have an interesting roster of characters, I'll be getting this. And Parappa is definitely a good start.
