They do that A LOT in the Good Omens radio adaption, and I found it clunky as hell. If Amazon wasn’t going to fork over the money for more “show don’t tell,” I’m ok with the narration. That said, I agree with you that they could have worked to make it less invasive at times.
One of Amazon’s leadership principles is “frugality,” which expresses itself in unfortunate ways throughout Good Omens. The narration was the only way any of that material was going to get covered, unfortunately.
I was reading about the General Slocum disaster and was struck by how similar the anti-German rhetoric was to what we hear today. They won’t learn English, they won’t assimilate, they bring crime. It’s always been the same song, the beat has just changed over the years.
