That doesn’t seem to deal with the substantive point I’m making there but, again, if that’s the way you would describe policing any and all political speech...fair enough. We just may not see eye to eye there either.

Again, we’re just going to disagree on that point because of the extent to which the Israeli objection to the politics contained within the criticism of Israel taken by Tlaib and Omar(who, rightly or wrongly was sanctioned by her own party for antisemitic language not too long ago) is in good faith. I appreciate you

Nah, BDS is real and it’s the arm of a movement that, while it certainly has its share of bad actors, honestly seeks to drastically influence the Israel/Palestinian conflict. Could we talk for days about the contradictions and questionable methods? Sure but for the most part I think those people are acting in good

Seriously. Imagine being like “Well, in order to gain minute advantages over the other team we’ve decided to have 10 pitchers on our roster who can only pitch an inning at a time so...maybe Baseball should fundamentally change its rules to accomodate that?”

Maybe but the reality is that if Israel wants to shut the BDS movement up nothing they could have done would be less effective than barring her from entry and making this into a week-long news story. This was a stupid decision on their part.

Well, I disagree pretty strongly with that second paragraph. I can think of one pretty solid example of a country that outright bans a certain kind of political speech and we seem ok with calling them a democracy and their position fairly democratic but, again, this does get back to how benign you see particular types

Many of those points are valid in context of a larger discussion of Israel and the United States and their relationship, I don’t think any of that makes this undemocratic.

I mean, just one post ago it was “Israel denied her permission to take a planned trip because of her criticisms of Israel.” and now it’s Israel denied her permission because Trump asked them to(which, if we’re being value neutral about it for a second, is actually a pretty good reason to do something if the head of an

Trust me, I don’t think focusing on “I don’t really know about the situation but I’m pretty comfortable saying that Israel, not the IDF or even certain bad actors within the IDF, is as a whole guilty of wanton murder” wouldn’t do you any more favours.

I mean “They were going to let them into the country until specifically requested not to by the head of government of one of their closest allies” seems to be more inclined to let the Netanyahu government off the hook than I am but, you know, do you.

If she eventually regretted making the offer then fair enough. That said it’s still a part of the story and deserved to be mentioned.

Yeah, I realize that if you see BDS as no big deal or a good thing you’re going to see it that way but they denied her entrance based on political differences, then when she asked to be let in on the condition that while she was there she wouldn’t actively discuss the political reasons she was barred from the country

They certainly didn’t cite that as a singular reason and lots of people who support BDS have been let into Israel. What they didn’t want, and again I disagree with their thinking her, were foreign governments official using their trip almost entirely as a means to promote a cause that seeks to financially damage the

They agreed to terms she proposed.

Sorry, but how are these Israel’s “demands”? Israel’s position, one I disagree with to be clear, was to not let her into the country at all. Then she requested another consideration under conditions she suggested. Israel agreed. Then she decided she didn’t want to agree to what she proposed.

I love it when Americans pretend that this sort of attitude is unique to Cannadians rather than shared by basically any non-American country in the world.

“There’s a spot in the administration my country elected for you” isn’t exactly the burn here you think it is.

So was pretending like invading Iraq taught you guys a valuable lesson that you definitely learned a lot from.

Until the next mailbox explodes and the culprit is anyone but Connor McIncel at which point look out Algeria!
