In the last three drafts they used 7 picks in the third round or higher on defensemen. I don’t know if any of them are world beaters yet but I think there are reasons to like the group.

I don’t know. I suppose I see why people thought that was inevitable but I always wonder with a guy like Yzerman. I guess really wants to see Detroit succeed and considers himself a part of that team and everything but I maybe might have thought that with the money he made playing he’d rather bomb around nice weather

This isn’t a disagreement on marginal tax rates or the finer points of foreign policy. Dismissing the actual objections here are simple political differences feels pretty intentionally obtuse.

I’m certainly not looking to make excuses for Holland but I do wonder about whether some of those bad decisions that were made to try and extend the streak maybe were more about Mike Ilitch not wanting to see if he could outlast a rebuilding process.

I think he’s done an alright job of putting together a pretty decent prospect pool in Detroit considering they didn’t have some absurd run of multiple top 5 picks. He’s not going to be some sort of crazy game changer but unless they give him absolutely no control over the organization he should be an improvement at

“Someday...”

So? “If you do one thing, you’ll potentially offend players on your team and the manager that just won the world series but if you do the other thing you’ll upset a bunch of MAGA shitbrains” isn’t some sort of unresolvable moral quandary.

The White House” is just what Tim Thomas calls the shed where he keeps his survival rations.

I guess I get the idea behind the Red Sox being ok with people making individual choices but it’s hard for me to imagine an organization thinking there’s validity in players choosing to turn down an invitation to the White House because the current occupant is such a mush-brained racist shithead and also being ok with

So he’s a bear?

To be fair it is still a dangerous substance that can cause real health problems to people so it’s understandable that authorities would want to investigate and punish people for its use.

You mean the guy who literally lost his starting job the year he won the cup?

Cam Ward is post-lockout and cap so he’s not really of that era. Beyond that probably 27 of the previous 30 cups would have been won with a HOFer or Vezina winner in net.

Well, Thomas certainly qualifies but if we have to go back 8 years I think the point is that needing the Roy-Belfour-Brodeur type is no longer the requirement it once was.

I’m genuinely trying to think of who the last cup winner was who didn’t have a goalie that was a question mark. LA with Quick? But even Quick is fairly inconsistent.
