What? So the 25 year old late 3rd round pick with so-so career AHL numbers isn’t a world beater and is maybe just someone who got hot for a while? And having a momentarily hot goalie is the only difference between good and bad teams in the NHL these days?

I don’t see any real point in calling anyone names but even if these kids didn’t know what their parents were doing they still were oblivious to the point where they didn’t have the grades/smarts to get into some of these schools and didn’t realize something was amiss at their acceptance. Maybe they’re just dopey

To be clear I’m coming at this from the perspective of a Canadian who wasn’t used to many of the food excesses of the US until I went to Buffalo a few times. I’m not a cosmopolitan city-hopping sophisticate who is comparing Buffalo to all of America’s major metropolises.

Admittedly I was only ever an infrequent visitor to Buffalo but I was always impressed by the food scene. I never was much for the Beef on Weck and the wings never earned the reputation but pizza, sandwiches...the stuff it wasn’t famous for was pretty good, including my all time favourite candy store in Parkside

Just because it’s in season I’d like to nominate my patented Passover sandwich. It’s not good, exactly, but it is made out of available seder-y ingredients on my plate while the reading of the haggadah is going on and I get dangerously low on blood sugar.

Well, there are two things there. One, those players do that largely in the off-season as they tend to be focused during the season. Most of those stories re: James and his crew were when he was playing for the Cavs so it doesn’t seem like geography mattered much in those pursuits.

That’s definitely a blow to the NBA and their huge Garden Party scene.

Yeah. And, in a way, Vancouver would be the perfect example of a city that desperately needs affordable housing so an Athlete’s Village transitioning into something like that could be a real public service.

I feel like that sort of ignores the realities of these guys’ life in those cities though. They’re not living in dirty, cramped conditions. They’re not digging their cars out of snow. They’re not concerned about rent costs.

No? I didn’t say a word about tax breaks for anyone. What I’m talking about are salary caps.

If you think a free agent choosing to sign somewhere constitutes a team “buying” him then I think the issue there is yours.

I always feel as though this is sort of the hidden reason as to why salary caps suck. There’s a lot about living/playing in big markets that sucks but the trade-off has always been more money. Take away that and a lot of players will opt for the low-key thing if they can make just as much money.

That definitely seems like a problem for a US based Olympics but I just meant with the Olympics in general it seems like it would be an easy way in your various countries to do some social good by building the village and then letting the government have it.

I think you’re basically right about this but just for some perspective, for various reasons I’m not really much of a movie theatre person so I tend to wait until they are released digitally. Accordingly, I do my best to avoid spoilers but recognize that people are going to talk about movies on twitter and in real

It’s always baffled me that the Athlete’s Village turns out to be one of the bigger boondoggles in the process and is one of the first things to be dropped when it seems like the transition from Athlete Fuckpad to Public Housing is a pretty easy one.

Bad news for all of those Naked Golfer Fetishists I suppose.

The Night King clearly, what with his army of White Walkers.

Racist jokes are still both racist and jokes. Something doesn’t become “not racist” if it’s a joke.

I don’t think you really need to get too deep into the weeds to determine whether or not Cournoyer in his 30's or Rick Tocchet were better players than Alex Killorn or whoever else on the Lightning struggled to crack 40 points.
