Cool story.

Which, as an outsider when it comes to American politics, seems like transparent bullshit but bullshit is both unsurprising and possibly effective.

I suppose but it seems to me that the only thing that would actually put pressure on these shitheads to end the shutdown is the idea that it was playing badly among their own rubes. I doubt anyone’s laughing at this who wasn’t laughing at him already.

So, I guess I’m maybe the only one who thinks that this was kind of good politics by him?

Ok but the guy has enough trouble getting to first base, let alone third.

It’s actually a Nazi/Not a Nazi dichotomy but kudos for trying to force whatever weird political shit you’re going through into every conversation.

I can see that you’re very fond of that straw man, I can see why it’d be a tactic to resort to as opposed to keep trying to illicit sympathy for Nazis via an honest argument but A) I see through it and B) I’m still not going to feel bad for Nazis.

With people like you willing to cape for them? Probably not.

If the person who threw that punch had hit Richard Spencer just because he didn’t like his stupid haircut and had no clue of his political beliefs, I would similarly not waste any tears on him while maintaining a “You shouldn’t punch people because of their stupid haircuts” stance. My general disapproval of an act can

He’s continuing the proud family tradition of “Look, I didn’t actually see what you’re talking about...”

“’I’ is a letter. ‘I’ is not a word. And when it’s used as a word, that becomes a problem.”

The entire thrust of every article about Spencer is that punching someone in the face is ok so long as it’s the right face.

Like you say, it’s not a zero-sum game. I can think the world would be a better place if Spencer gets hit by a truck and think Nazis deserve whatever violence comes their way. If one Nazi shoots another over a card game I can both think that the Murderer should go to jail and the Murderee got what was coming to them.

Nah. Nazis deserve violence.

Now playing

I don’t like it unless it’s brand new:

I’m not blind to what you’re saying, I’m flat-out saying you’re wrong about it. Tom Ley(the guy who wrote this) is not rendered hypocritical somehow because of decisions made by Nick Denton(who did not write this) in a very different situation.

So...you’d maybe have a point if this post here was written by Nick Denton?

I don’t think so because you still seem to think there’s some hypocrisy here which, to me, is like someone who gave you crabs saying that it’s hypocritical to call them on it because you both have crabs.

Right, I didn’t suggest there were greys back then(the approved commenter/non-approved thing sprang out of that whole rape gif thing) but just making a general point about the communities here vs. at barstool.

I think the difference between the two situations is that the Jezebel thing was an example of how open comment systems are vulnerable to one or two people spamming it with offensive shit and this seems to be more about the general tenor and tone of the Barstool comment section as a whole.
