Lynch's work has always used special effects in unconventional ways, sometimes drawing attention to their artifice by looking cheap and ugly; I can think of plenty of examples.
The guy is no amateur, he is capable of going hyper-realistic if he wants to.

yeah cuz when I am shown the Red Room, I am demanding verisimilitude ..

I don't care, I've loved all the songs and the bands so far.
I'm not sure that 'serving the narrative' is Lynch's prime objective, either ..

I got that vibe too … did admittedly imbibe quite a bit of spice before watching 1&2 though, tbh ..

as Wolfman above says, definitely shades of Eraserhead in the Evolution of the Arm - Dune too!
MacLachlan floating in the glass box also reminded me of Dune ..

yeah I gotta admit that reveal drew an audible gasp from me; as soon as you saw MacLachlan it was obvious that this AntiCooper had been wreaking havoc of one sort or another for 25 years with grim satisfaction - nice costume work, too..

Yeah I thought it was a nifty bit o' commentary on the character.
Also, I didn't mind James in S1, it wasn't really til his whole out-of-town adventure that he lost me - not my favourite character by any means but definitely a necessary archetype for the story.

There are some wonderful moments on the Bladerunner soundtrack, I have been giving it a listen over the past couple of weeks.

ah good; I don't know those shows ..

no, totally agree, not sure why it's garnered so much praise - nice playing, but a bit by-the-numbers for me ..

agree with Fripp on Baby's On Fire.

always good to hear Janet Varney getting work; a likeable and talented woman

brilliant timing and delivery - Strategic Grill Locations is probably made up of %50 really dodgy jokes, but damn if that shit isn't the funniest thing I have heard in my life - I can be listening for 10 minutes to SGL and not laugh once, and then something just breaks me.. seems to be a different joke every time, too.

she does the same lip-thing.

naw it's way better than Girls - Ilana and Abbi are actually likeable for starters, plus it's actually funny too … first season was stellar.

schooled.

gee, thanks AV Club.

Personally I think Lost Highway is one of Lynch's most cohesive and glorious films.
I can't really remember Wild at Heart but should give it another go; I remember thinking it was pretty weak at the time.
Lost Highway blew my mind.

I bought an acre of land in South Dakota in the Badlands. I got me an acre of bad land. That shit is mean.
