If Sesame Street can do it, why not Nova or Masterpiece Theater, etc. etc.

If Sesame Street can get their funding from other sources - they don't need PBS. Whenever Congress tries to cut PBS's budget. You get people screaming "They are killing Sesame Street!". Since isn't true - the money currently going to PBS could be put to better use.

Sesame Street gets less than 10% of their funding from PBS. If anything, this HBO deal supports the argument for the government to defund PBS once and for all.
