Uh, no the 3DS was also a failure, and led to their first ever financial loss in March of 2012 (8 months BEFORE Wii U even hit the scene): https://www.polygon.com/gaming/2012/4/26/2975416/nintendo-earnings-loss

The 3DS is a failure too. It was the single reason Nintendo posted their first ever loss in March, 2012 (note Wii U didn’t even debut until November of 2012, the failed 3DS is why they lost money): https://www.polygon.com/gaming/2012/4/26/2975416/nintendo-earnings-loss
Just came to see how hard headed 3DS fanboys still are, insisting that Switch is NOT the successor, despite losing the biggest franchise to Switch, simply because it’s “too big” with “too short” of a battery life- if they “fix” both those options, what are 3DS fanboys going to use as their reasoning then??
hey, you’re right! Seems this author is pretty stupid, because it looks like he went from something that was on clearance in 1995 (I got one for $30 in early 1996 after stores were trying to give them away), and paid little value for it to be caught up on Nintendo’s systems. He didn’t need a Wii, because he has a Wii…
and he’s playing on a 2DS, so by your same logic, the 2DS was also a horrible commercial failure.
Yeah, with 14 million of the things worldwide, it’s never going to truly be rare like something like Virtual Boy where not even 1 million were sold worldwide, only variants of it will be.
if they were really ashamed of it, why is it still listed on this list when Virtual Boy a true failure isn’t?
give it time, Wii U is more common than Saturn or Dreamcast, and those are quite abundant at retro stores, so with 50% more Wii U’s than either, plenty will show up when it is considered retro.
Still more common than any Sega system other than Genesis. It’ll be easier finding a Wii U than a Master System!
14 million people would disagree with no one actually buying them.
Actually, unlike Sega, Nintendo finally made a profit off Wii U in 2014. They reported it in their 2015 financials, but oddly enough that seems to be swept under the rug, because people don’t want to admit that headlines like this were actually printed. https://www.techtimes.com/articles/51497/20150509/nintendo-is-red-…
Won’t ever be as rare as a Master System, or a Saturn or Dreamcast. Heck, even Atari 7800's are more rare!
“another reason for low supply of Wii U is that it was Nintendo’s worst-selling console” Virtual Boy would like to have a word with you!
Except the fact that Wii U will be easier to find than those that didn’t reach it in sales- ie Dreamcast, Saturn, 7800, 5200, Jaguar, Game Gear, Nomad, Colecovision, Arcadia 2001, and dozens and dozens of more. It’s in the top 20 (even if it gets pushed down it’ll still be in the top 25 for several more years), so…
Now it makes you wonder if they’re going to edit it, or if they’re going to leave it as/is- I’m banking on editing, which is why it’s delayed so far ahead.
Wouldn’t have been one if this had been a Switch only Direct. Nintendo still isn’t getting the message that even Mother Nature herself wants Nintendo to stop pushing the 3DS so hard, and finally move development over to Switch like Game Freak, Atlus, Level 5, Capcom, Square, and many, many others have! What more will…
Up next Super Mario World with the SNES mouse!
Scrubs revived it when the series was revived.
Remember when Nintendo cared about Animal Crossing fans? Pepperidge Farms remembers.
one, game sales are what developers (including Nintendo) look at, and the games on 3DS are NOT selling well. They go to 3DS now to die. Wario Ware selling like crap on launch proves it- it can’t even crack the top 20 in the West, the MUCH bigger market???
