My former sister in law was a nurse. She was on the fence about vaccinations. She bought a book about it that was actually science based and of course told her to vaccinate but she didn’t like the book because it apparently wasn’t balanced. God it was so annoying to try to keep a straight face when she told me that.

Ok. Most milk alternatives are fortified. Dairy is not good for humans and leads to digestive problems. Dairy industry is also one of the biggest producers of CO2. It is smart to use alternatives when possible both for yourself and the fucking planet

Even more sad that the woman has a 2 & 4 year old that no longer have their mother.

Those rich parents also have time to sit on the internet and read mommy blogs and sketchy news sites while the poor moms are working two jobs and doing all they can just to get their kids their checkups before school starts. Poor mom’s don’t have time to deal with this bullshit.

That’s true, but the amount and type of fortification varies widely between brands. And a lot of time, the “pure” stuff you get from farmer’s markets and small local manufacturers (the bougie shit these types are likely to buy) aren’t fortified at all, because “no additives!” and all that.

They are not ignorant of how statistics work, they are cognizant of how statistics work and believe they will beat the odds because they are better people.

WTF is wrong with people?!? This is so sad.

These stories are heartbreaking.  All the anticipation of welcoming a new life, wanting desperately to protect your unborn child, the family planning a funeral rather than a baby shower.  Awful.

Oh my god.

I could never do that job.

They go to “good” private schools, where the parents basically pay for the prestige and can bitch and complain their way to an A from criminally underpaid teachers who are often not fully credentialed or qualified to teach public school. I subbed at once such school in Palo Alto when I was starting out as a teacher,

Vaccinating also benefits the child, because they don’t get a potentially disabling or fatal disease. People who don’t vaccinate because of the chance of being hurt by vaccines are ignorant of how statistics work. It’s like planning your retirement around winning the lottery.

Here’s an extra layer of dumbassery to that story: you need a surprisingly small amount of Vitamin D not to get rickets. It’s why it’s added to milk; a couple servings a day (a bowl of cereal in the morning, a glass with dinner) is enough Vit D for kids to not get rickets. Milk alternatives aren’t fortified in the

Is it weird that the “perfect” tend to be more evil? It’s like aristocracy all over again, now with white filling.

Oh Yes! Homebirth moms with doulas. Only wear organic cotton and linen, everything in the house is untreated wood (which is highly allergic for a lot of people), everyone wears Wild Feminist t-shirts.

Why invest in public health when we know wellness is the best answer for good health?

I also think this explains a lot about how the “vaccines cause autism” took hold. People who hold wealth and want to keep/gain more wealth are usually also obsessed with status. Having an autistic or otherwise “other” kid hurts that outward projection of “perfect” and is therefore more of a threat than the

NO FUCKING SHIT, SHERLOCK.

This reminds me of two wealthy counties, a few years back, in which cases of rickets were showing up in children. The children were from affluent homes, did not appear to be neglected or abused, and doctors could not ascertain the reason. Rickets is not generally a disease that we see in places of adequate nutrition.
