One of the other real stories here is that they are driving around with empty boxes pretending to deliver them. It doesn’t matter that Pence didn’t actually pick one up and drop it off, he still gave the appearance of being helpful without actually being helpful.

Here’s the thing - yes, the box Mike picked up clearly did have stuff in it, BUT the rest of the boxes in the van were, as he was told, EMPTY. So why was he driving around in a van full of empty boxes? To give the appearance of doing something. There’s almost no difference between that and actually moving empty boxes…
