“Did you apologize to that nice black boy across the street?”

umm she’s not blaming judy garland for her addiction. she is saying she grew up in an environment where drug use was normal. she thought thats how everyone acted

That’s not how I read it at all. It just sounds like she bonded with the neighbour’s kid over having f-ed up moms. It was the jezebel-writer who interpreted that as “blame”. I don’t see any blaming in that statement. It’s just sad

I read it as ‘with out Nair’ and was like “ah, a riff on the ol’ ‘without pain’ thing. Wait.”

Hannah said that Judy Garland is partially to blame. From that chunk of what Katey actually wrote, she isn’t blaming anyone. Just noting the normality of pill usage in her childhood.

I saw that more as the thing which bonded them.

I think the article’s author is the one who makes that blame claim, the excerpt from the book just talks about how pill use was normalized between her mom and her friend’s mom.

I’m in my thirties and I absolutely love getting older. Every year I get more comfortable with myself and enjoy life more. I find more things that interest me and I know what I am and what I am not. It’s magical.

I feel sorry for her, but I agree - I don’t care how brainwashed she is, at this point the safety of their children is at stake.

but I think Josh Duggar is the one who should bear the brunt of the blame.

Just wondering, how many people believe that a man who molests his own sisters shouldn’t be trusted to be around his own daughters?

Many Quiverfull families, especially the REALLY LARGE ones, have a history of retaining a SAHD - stay at home daughter. Usually the eldest (which Jana is) who helps to continue to care for the younger kids as the older ones are married off. Then as JimBob and Michelle age, she’ll care for them.

Oh, he’s an all around dick. But the movement and the family are all twisted sacks. The crazy thing about quiverfull people is that they’re from all kinds of different churches. They just locked on to Psalm 137:3-5 *shudder* And some of the other ones that “define the role of the woman”.

I don’t know much about them, but it does seem like Evangelicals and subsects like this particular cult, get a lot of concessions and are able to live on the fringes so that they aren’t accountable.

I think it’s possible to feel both badly for the life she has been forced into and also upset with her for not protecting her children.

I’m not judging her- I am just saying there reaches a point when destructive forces hurting a child goes would force a parent to hold some kind of responsibility. I’m not saying she should be arrested or anything- I just don’t see how we can act like she isn’t an adult. Lots of people have left the quiverfull

The terrifying part is their reaction that the ashley madison stuff was worse than the molestation. Molest little girls that’s “understandable” go on Ashley Madison, that’s where we put our foot down.

Quiverful doesn’t look at children as children. They’re tools to achieve an end, and highly expendable at that.
