Justin, look at me. LOOK AT ME. I HAVE STOPPED CARING.
Justin, look at me. LOOK AT ME. I HAVE STOPPED CARING.
This is the modern day equivalent to “put their heads on pikes to send a message” signaling.
That’s a 10-4 good buddy
I like to drive my car up on ramps, use 3 jacks, and 4 jack stands. I also insert wooden lateral supports too....all this JUST in case of an earthquake.
This would be the same experience as your 2017 S6 - 2018 is the same car. I’m aware of the differences and the fact the s6 is 1000 pounds heavier than my m3 - it is a concern. I don’t expect it to handle as well; but during one test drive I was very impressed.
Ok, let me re-state: after test driving an S6 a year ago and seriously considering a 2 year old model for $50k because it drove amazing, I’ve learned that a brand new 2018 model could be had for ~$55-60k and now I’m seriously considering it.
Most asset prices are cyclical. An asset in steep depreciation today may be one that is well regarded in 5-10 years. But yes, a few years down the line doesn’t look good for the sedan market.
Sorry, I put unpublished in quotations because they are being shared on audi forums. It looks like Audi is putting $15k on the table for dealerships, not including any normal negotiated reduction. So, for example, there are reported cases of 2018 S6's (and S7's) being sold for >$20k less than MSRP.
Tom, have you seen the “unpublished” discounts on 2018 Audi S6s? Was going to e-mail you privately as I’m seriously considering trading my spectacular 2015 m3 6mt for an s6 due to how good the discount is....

Justin, should you be writing about cars if this is an epiphany?
No tip that if I give the registration desk a $100 bill they’ll find me an upgraded room? I mean, c’mon, what type of advice is this?
I have no direct comparison experience, but for what it’s worth I’ve read that PASM cars are dramatically different riding. Comparing the 2018 Cayman S w/ 20" wheels and PASM (5k miles on it) to my 2015 m3 with 50k miles on it on 18" wheels with adaptive suspension....well, the Cayman rode ALOT better over the same…
Pothole concern is, I believe, a function of tire, wheel, and weight of the vehicle. You can get a tougher tire, a tougher wheel, change damping, and/or reduce the weight of your vehicle.
It’s about 4% more sidewall. Not much, I agree. Then again, I wasn’t exactly changing my wheels or setup in any meaningful way. My primary motivator was to increase tire compliance during mid-corner broken pavement; it helped there.
Can’t agree with this enough (with one exception noted below). I have a stock 2015 m3 with adaptive suspension on 18" stock wheels. I upsized the tires to 265/40/18 and 285/40/18 (from 255 and 285, respectively) to gain both width and sidewall height. A good suspension can often perform better in real world…
People, for real, simmer down.
Miata is not the answer to drive 2 kids in - sorry Patrick.
Been a BMW guy for awhile; own an f80 m3 and previously owned an e39 m5 among others. Driven alot of BMWs. Never drove a z4 unless 2 months ago....
Your logic is failed/incomplete. Oil analysis helps forecast oil life as a function of the cleanliness of the oil (which is a byproduct of air filtration, oil filtration, engine cleanliness, and oil breakdown) and it’s ability to deter acidity build-up. In commercial trucking, the ability to extend to super long oil…
