She didn't get a refund for the car.

I assume this is in a 401k? If not, there are much better options than .41%. Get your employer match, nothing more, max out a roth with fidelity/vanguard/trowe. Look for index funds below .2%.

IF the fees are low I would use them if options in a 401k are limited. For instance, I have the option of 20 different mutual funds in my 401k. Only three of them are low cost. (Most charge a fee above 1%, 3 of them charge a fee below .1%). If I didn't have other investments, diversification and low fees would be

Iced tea rules. Even in the south where sweet tea is pervasive, they always call it sweet tea. Iced tea does not contain sugar and it is delicious.

Excel. (- FV=8%, (Retirement Age - Age), Income * %, Current 401k value))*4%

Play around with ROR (8%), percentage of income and retirement age, and 4% rule violations. To get more complicated one could also inflate income over time. My goal is to use the numbers above until the percentage of income I save is high

To add to that, the global stock market tends to be a better inflationary hedge. If there is inflation corporate earnings should also inflate. Of course, if you're afraid of hyperinflation, I would argue there is no great hedge. Traditionally the US dollar has been fairly decent. Not really useful for someone

Sometimes I think, my parents must have been unusual, letting me drive farm equipment so young. But then I remember the local tractor dealership had a NYS certified training that was required to drive a tractor down the road if you were between 10 - 14. So I wasn't the only one doin' it.

A big part of the reason I won't ever have kids. I would have revolted if my parents treated me like a baby that long. The list of things I was allowed to do that are now considered child abuse is too long to mention. None of them resulted in harm, injury or even discomfort.

Not a parent, but can a parent leave an 8 year old in a car for 15 minutes if it isnt hot out? I remember being left in a car and waving to other kids. But if I had a kid and did it I would be worried about jail time and broken windows.

Is that a manual? The jetta automatic does much better at 50-55. It drops to the high 40 mpgs once things get crazy fast like 65 mph.

17,500 for plebeians, 23,000 for the grey haired elitists, the Roth IRA is 5500 and 6,500 respectively. (Grey haired elitists = 50 years old and over)

Put it in a traditional IRA, if you cannot use a Roth 401k at work, perhaps roll that traditional IRA into a Roth each year. Or given the size of your income, don't.

Would you recommend balancing the US part of a portfolio amongst US sectors more evenly or consistently than the S&P 500 or a total stock market index fund would?

That's just nuts. I've never had anyone ask me for that. I wouldn't even let the bank do that when I got my mortgage until they gave me an interest rate and closing costs for what I knew my credit score to be.

Well there is the problem right there, 90% of millennials don't wear watches.

And he'd rather not... You might both be doing it right.

What did you end up buying?

Are the dealerships not doing a soft pull?

Particularly if you are financing, it can be easier to buy new and keep 15 years.

I am not trying to deny racism but racism is only part of the issue here. The other part is cops get off on power and in my experience they're happy to do the same thing to white people. I've been handcuffed for jaywalking. I've also been detained for an hour on an illegal stop for suspected DWI.
