Is there a way I can send facebook messages from the desktop? I'd like to block the site from my browser (so I don't spend hours on my news feed) but still be able to answer questions that people send me...

This is nothing new, Mercedes Benz has been doing this for quite some time now. They have the same setup in a huge industrial building right here in Berlin, and everything they talk about has been incooperated thatere!
i have to say i love the idea! just imagine that the whole building will be submerged and the area around it could be used to set up parks and places for people to relax.
