This other guy with a very in depth explanation doesn’t actually answer your question. Yes, the 6 cylinder Cummins was originally made as a 12 valve. But then later on they began producing a 24 valve motor. There is also a split in the community between those who prefer the 12V and those who prefer the 24V.
