it's a form of emphasis like underlining and bolding. I am sure the latter two are possible somehow, but on boards like this I tend to use all caps unless I see an underline or bold button.

The early 70's were the absolute worst era for cartoons. While there were some exceptions, so many cartoons were so much more focused on issue of the week than actually being entertaining.

The end of season 1 was great.

In my defense I was about 10 or 11 when that happened.
