I had to go back and lookup what happened with Jacque. These are 2 quotes from a 9 page Cubs message board thread titled ‘Why again did we hate Jacque Jones’. We moved to Chicago when I was a teenager, and I stayed until my early 30s. I was always dumbstruck by the easy racism my friends would drop into conversations.

from what I remember, he wasn’t very good, and the Cubs fans were all over him. I think he claimed people were sending him racist hate mail. He was getting booed mercilessly at Wrigley. Just a terrible year for him. (Note that I might be misremembering this - this was 10 or so years ago)

I'm a huge Cubs fan. But, our fanbase definitely has a dark side. Bartman, Sammy Sosa, Jacque Jones, Dusty Baker - the fans have been vicious against these guys and more. In Sosa's case, I don't know how you can go from 'second greatest Cub ever' to the most hated & reviled person in Chicago who isn't in government,

I think the Pirates gave Bryant a little chin music after that. Not like the announcers had any insight into that, tho.

Complete Cubs fan here, so I’m happy.

“Please consider partnering with Cindy"?!?!? Isn't that what got them in trouble the first time?

They tried to limit his innings, but couldn't rein in his outings.

The master plan was 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019... As a Cubs fan, it is hard to not get wayyyyyy ahead of myself on this. It's dynasty-or-bust!

Abso-freaking-lutely. Plus, if anything, the Cubs screwed themselves out the best record in baseball by not bringing up Schwarber for the whole year. He's been the catalyst for this run. Bryant and the rest were sitting at 47-40 (or so?) when he got called up, and have gone 50-25 since!

Water? Like from the toilet?

rudy... Rudy... RUDY!!!

came here to post this, though my take was

I'm a Cubs fan, but think Buehrle is awesome. He was everything you wanted in a pitcher, especially as a fan. Old school 'Eddy Shore' type pitching, with no wasted time wandering around the mound. Get the ball, throw the ball, repeat 9 times, take a seat.

Sorry, Kitty. I should have read the grays first.

Hope punched first!

unless you want to pitch. then it's cool, go warm up.

As a Bears & Jags fan, I sadly approve of this comment (though the Jags defense is getting much better!)

Bitonio and Greco sound like white guards, not black guards.

Yeah, this is my vote. Cam is clearly offended by what Ed said, but I see “running” too. Remember, they’re in a stadium with 60,000 people screaming, too.

Approaching the top, OK. The acme must be the Bullets/Wizards players bringing guns to the locker room to threaten each other. Am I misremembering? That happened, right? I think that one wins.
